We are skignz (“signs in the sky”) a location-based augmented reality provider.
While we probably don't know one another, we have a mutual friend: The slightly sad, but magical blue circle.
If you haven't read the "birth announcement", you can see it here on the Google Mobile Blog that introduced it to the world.
This page is about plans to celebrate the blue circle and it's upcoming 10th birthday.
As a grassroots effort, this initiative is intended for companies that leverage location-based services to create value.
We are using the occasion of Google's introduction of "my location" on November 28, 2007 to create an event and generate some “buzz”. (Yes, location-based services existed before that, but the introduction of the "magical blue circle" as an icon offers all of us a simple and clear anchor point.)
How do I take action?
There are some very simple rules of the road that we have shared at Google Docs
Google Docs doesn’t have a capability to alert users when updates are made, so please bookmark the page and visit occasionally as we hope to update it regularly.
Who are skignz?
skignz has been providing location-based AR experiences since 2013. Founded in the North East of England (UK & Erupean HQ) and have our US HQ in Atlanta, GA. You can learn more by visiting our website.
Why are you doing this?
We're doing this for three reasons:
1. developers and help build a community interested in leveraging our soon-to-be-released API.
2. Our CMO (Tom Daly) was the former Head of Mobile at The Coca-Cola Company and spent years building the mobile industry in his role at the Mobile Marketing Association; Rest assured he’s committed to helping all companies win in the mobile space.
3. "Location" in the context of consumer privacy is a significant and legitimate discussion. At the same time, having access to location data is essential to any business creating experiences and/or deriving revenue-using location. As an industry it could be helpful to increase awareness of the value location brings.
What’s the catch?
There is no catch. We had an idea and wanted to run with it. If nothing else, being aware of the 10 year anniversary and doing something - anything - on November 28th is a good excuse for a party. (You're welcome).
Beyond that, it can be whatever you choose but please let us know at email@example.com so we can use your efforts to inspire others and make this into something bigger than any one of us could do alone.
